FAQ about our gym
Q: Where are you located?
Questions about our Space
Q: What do I wear/bring to practice?
A: Please come to practice with all jewelry and piercings removed, with your hair tied back. We recommend clean indoor shoes and comfy athletic clothing. Wear whatever you are comfortable and can move in. And a reusable water bottle!
Q: Can I watch?
A: Absolutely! We have an upstairs viewing area to watch practice. Please head up the stairs (using the staircase in the black gym) and grab a seat if you'd like to watch.
Q: Can we eat/drink there?
A: We ask that you do everything you can to reduce your waste, and bring as little garbage into our building as possible. If you are eating, please clean up after yourself and only eat in the upstairs mezzanine.
Q: Where do I put my stuff?
A: Please place your shoes in one of two places: on the shoe rack, or in your bag. This includes families viewing practice to keep our floors as clean as possible. Each gym has either cubbies or hooks and shelves to place your items, please keep your items off the floor, and use the storage provided. There are garbage cans available on the main floor and in the front entrance of the gym. We ask you to please keep food and snacks out of the gym to help keep our gym clean and free of mess. We ask everyone to try to use recyclable products for the benefit of our environment.
Q: When does your season run?
A: Our regular cheer season begins the first week of September, right after the long weekend, with team placements the third week in August. Our pre-competitive teams season ends at the end of March and our Competitive season generally ends just before the Easter break in April. We also have additional programming available to athletes that are not able to commit to a team over the season and would like to work on other classes. These classes run in four different sessions: Fall: Oct-Dec, Winter: Jan-Mar, Spring: May-June, Summer: July-Aug
Q: How do I purchase merchandise?
A: All of our currently available merchandise is available online: HERE.
Q: Do you sell shoes?
A: Yes! We have various styles and sizes in the office, and if we don't have any in stock we can have them here in about a week for you. The current options are available HERE. If you'd like to come in and try some on email us and we'd be happy to help.
FAQ about our programming
Q: We've never cheered before, what is the difference between Pre-Competitive, Prep, and Competitive?
A: Our pre-competitive program is our once-per-week "rec" program. It is cost-efficient and requires no commitment outside of a once per week practice. This program works towards building a routine for show-off and show-case with options of demo's in the city.
Our Prep teams are part of our competitive programming. Prep teams compete on a slightly different scoresheet that prioritizes execution and fundamentals rather than difficulty and creativity. Our prep teams create a 2minute routine and compete within Saskatchewan.
Our Competitive teams are all part of our competitive programming. Competitive teams range from levels 1-7 and create a 2:30 routine to compete. These teams compete Nationally and up to Internationally.
Q: Do you offer payment plans?
A: All of our pre-competitive, competitive, and competition fee programs offer monthly payment plan options. Uniform pieces also can be paid by payment plan. If you need alternate arrangements at any point you can always reach out.
Q: Do you offer fundraising?
A: Yes! We have a fabulous parent committee that organizes fundraisers all season long. None of our fundraising is mandatory, but anyone can participate in any fundraising. Fundraising options and details can be seen here.
Q: Do I need experience to join?
A: All of our programs are no-experience necessary. Both our pre-competitive and competitive programs have team options for all levels of experience from none to advanced.
Q: What attendance is expected of me?
A: We are stronger when we are together! Cheerleading is a team sport and to put our best work onto the floor we need to have our athletes at practice. We expect our competitive athletes make attending practice a priority so that everyone is able to participate and the teams can move forward with their skills. We know unexpected events do come up (funerals, illness, etc.), and ask if there are upcoming events, where it will be unavoidable to miss practice, to speak directly with your coaches and make them aware so they can properly set the practice plan for the team. Sometimes, in the best interest of the team, adjustments need to be made to the routines when athletes are not able to attend.
Q: How much does a private lesson cost?
A: Private lessons are $40+GST per lesson and run for 45 minutes. When booking your lesson you will be charged for $40x the number of lessons in your block. Each coach and session will have different total quantities
Tryout Questions
Q: I want to be on either a Worlds team or level 3+ team, where should I tryout?
A: Please only register for one tryout time, and choose your preference at checkout. Tryouts for our Level 3+ teams are now closed but take place in June. If you are interested in joining please email us at info@prairiefirecheerleading.ca
Q: I want to be on Hotshots team, do I need to attend tryouts?
A: Hotshots registration is open already, and you do not need to attend a team placement. Simply visit the registration tab and sign up. An email with team details will be sent at the end of August.
Q: I cannot attend tryouts/placements, what should I do?
A: Please email info@prairiefirecheerleading.ca to arrange an alternate tryout date
Team Placement Questions
Q: What is a Team Placement?
A: Team placements are group assessments where coaches see the current skills and abilities of our athletes.
Q: What do you do at Placements?
A: You will be assessed on a variety of things like: jumps, tumbling, height, reach, vertical, conditioning and stunting
Q: Does everyone attend placements?
A: You will either attend team placements in August, or tryouts in June. You only need to attend one or the other.
If you are joining pre-competitive programming you do not need to attend placements.
Q: Does everyone get placed on a team after placements?
A: Yes, the placement is just so that the coaches can find the best place for your athlete, and everyone is placed on a team.
Pre-Competitive Programming
Q: Do you need any experience for pre-competitive?
A: Not at all! This is the perfect place to join if you're new to cheer.
Q: Do you need any extra items?
A: Once you've registered for our pre-comp team you are set! The only additional expense is your Cheer Canada and SCA Membership which costs about $40.
Q: Can we purchase items?
A: Absolutely! You are always welcome to purchase catalog items, sports bras, merch, or uniform pieces if you are interested.
